FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is an Edububble site?
An edububble is a website that is easy to manage and quick to update. You can have one page or many, a simple site or a complex one – it really is up to you. You can make changes at any time, from any internet-connected computer, so if you want to start small and add pages later – that’s fine too.
What could I do with my Edububble site?
An edububble combines simplicity with flexibility. If you have an online project in mind, you can probably make it happen with your edububble.
If you haven’t thought of your online project yet, here are some suggestions of what your edububble could provide:
- a website for your parents and supporters association
- a focus for an extra-curricular Website Club
- an online magazine
- a project for a class or study group
- a noticeboard for news, newsletters and announcements
- an online resource for your wider community
- a blog for an individual, such as a headteacher, or for a group, such as school governors
How easy is it to use an Edububble site?
If you can send an email you already have the necessary skills to contribute to an edububble. Children in Years 5 & 6 could happily submit material to an edububble with only a little help. Children in years 3 & 4 would need a little more supervision and guidance. Secondary school students would find it easy to make an edububble their own.
Can I control what students write on our Edububble site?
Yes – and without too much effort. Each edububble has an inbuilt system of access control, so that some users have permission to submit material, but cannot publish directly onto the site. The site’s administrator can access this material via an intuitive dashboard and if a piece is ready to publish, this is achieved with a single click.
Who can have an Edububble site?
Edububbles are only for individuals and groups involved in education at any level – from pre-school to continuing learners. This should be reflected in the purpose of your edububble. For further details, please see our Terms of Service.
Will there be adverts on my Edububble site?
Not for Pro Users – and there never will be. Basic accounts do display adverts however, since this is a means to fund our continuing work to provide free and low-cost websites to educational institutions. To go ad-free, simply upgrade your account and become an Edububble Pro.
Is an Edububble site safe?
Yes because an edububble puts you, as the site’s administrator, in control. When you first get your edububble, it will be set up to maximise your site’s security. For example, it will be set up not to allow anyone to post comments on your news items. If you decide that this is something you’d like your users to do, then you can allow it at a level that suits you e.g. you can allow your registered users to post comments, so long as the comments have been checked by you.
Can I just have a free site?
Yes, but please bear in mind that the Free account is designed to give a taster of the possibilities an Edububble site will bring – it is not a fully-featured solution.
Free accounts:
- carry advertising
- have limited storage space for your media files (images etc.)
- have limited privacy options
- only allow the administrator to create posts and pages – not the ordinary users
- do not allow remote publishing, e.g. via Windows Live Writer
- may be disabled if unused for 30 days (not including school/college holidays).
